She’s on a Roll…

Many have heard of the traditional, deep-friend appetizer customarily filled with shredded cabbage, chopped pork, and other fillings, also known as an egg roll.

However, if you are looking for a fun, unique, non-traditional form of egg roll community, that is where Madi’s on a Roll comes in! From Philly cheesesteak, buffalo chicken, Thanksgiving dinner, and apple pie, there is no shortage of deliciousness served up weekly at local businesses throughout Northeast Philadelphia!

When looking at both Facebook and Instagram homepages, you will notice the handcrafted logo, as well as the eye-popping photos that beg for your attention (and your appetite)! With over 1K followers on each media platform, she is the perfect example of a user with an interactive and loyal community foundation.

According to Ravi Shukle, a contributor for Post Planner, to build a passionate social media community, one needs to lead by connecting followers with your passion and ideas. Letting your community in on your plans for the future is a great way for your business to include your community in the process and help build trust. Sure, your brand and logo are important — but what really connects people to you are shared beliefs and ideas. Talking openly about what you’re thinking and where you want to head will help unite your followers and grow a stronger, more passionate community. This is one thing Madi has been open about since the start of her business. In her website’s About section, she states that “growing up with parents who are business owners — one of whom owns two bakeries, you could say the entrepreneurial spirit is in my blood. And I’m finally embracing it! I started this company to bring you the perfect finger food… Egg rolls!” From there, she has always discussed what locations she has been at and where she looks to go next both in physical distance and with her egg rolls as a whole.

This openness about her passion and what she hopes for the future has continued with the recent engagement to her boyfriend, where she showcases how much support she receives from various family and friends behind the scenes. Seeing how much effort she puts into her homemade egg rolls encourages locals to purchase from her and grow a following rather than shopping for plain egg rolls at a restaurant or grocery store.

Amazing, enticing photography and information on where to find the items are what encourages users to interact. Instead of a plain photo of the product, the egg rolls are usually opened in the middle so customers can actually see what they look like inside (and make your mouth water). I believe another way that this community of egg roll lovers has continued to grow is because of the open-ended questions that are added to some of the posts. Showing a platter and asking what everyone’s dream tray would be also encourages Madi to get creative and make new recipes if a feasible idea arises in the comments. Posts also give customers the reassurance that these are all homemade and packaged as fresh and safe (due to COVID-19) as possible! The website link is present in both social media accounts, making it simple for potential customers to get to the order form quickly!

I attended college with Madi and knew all about her mom’s successful bakery. Seeing her take that home-grown talent and utilize it for another wonderful, intriguing product made me want to follow along in her new adventure even more. Unfortunately, because the appetizer is made fresh and cannot be shipped throughout the United States, I have been waiting patiently for a return trip to Pennsylvania to get my hands on apple pie and buffalo chicken cheesesteak egg rolls! This is further proof that she has done a wonderful job of connecting and creating a following. I do not live by her but am still always intrigued by what she is up to next via social media!
