Top 3 Ways to Attract Attention on Social Media
An estimated 3.81 billion people use social media worldwide. For businesses and self-branding this is exciting yet overwhelming news. With so much potential throughout the Internet, how does one tap into this audience and grow a following?
Here are my top three suggestions to help attract attention to your social media accounts:
1. Targeted Hashtags
According to Olivia Ryan of mention, when used strategically, hashtags can provide you with a ton of benefits. They can be used to get your content in front of a bigger audience, raise awareness about your brand, target a very specific group of people, boost your SEO, and use hot trends and topics to your advantage, among other things.
However, hashtags do not work for all accounts on social media. For instance, if your group is public, don’t forget to add hashtags and encourage members to add them in group posts. When others search for the hashtags your group includes, they will see your content and find your community. If your groups are closed, people can find it when they search groups, but they cannot see your posts when they do keyword research.
Whenever I think of hashtags, my mind goes directly to Twitter. I make sure to not only tag relevant groups but also utilize key phrases that I believe will match people with my post. Including a direct link to the account you are trying to promote will make it easier for active seekers to find and connect! It also never hurts to put fun emojis and GIFs alongside your writing!
2. Participate in third-party social media community
For me, I followed through on this by reaching out to one of my best friends who was a part of an even bigger Facebook Group, Word Of Mouth Clermont, which was made solely for members of Clermont, Fla. residents.
I received about 20 member requests from this posting. As you can tell by the comments, people thought it was a wonderful idea. It also led to even more self-promotion of a similar group in the area for a different age group.
3. Consider reaching out to influencers
According to a poll on the Tomoson blog, 59% of marketers are planning to increase their influencer marketing budgets over the next 12 months. The poll also showed that influencer marketing was rated the fastest-growing customer acquisition channel (and it can also be one of the cheapest if you use the right strategies).
While my Facebook Group, It’s Fine. Everything’s Fine. is not trying to promote a product, I reached out to the leading ladies of The Dusty Pink Podcast (DPP) to ask for some help in reaching more of my target audience. While the purpose of my group is for Xennial, Millennial, and Centennial women to support other women with uplifting content (men are welcome too), DPP is all about becoming your best dusty pink self, meaning, the most classy, empowered, all-around best version of yourself — whatever that means for you. I felt as though we both target a similar type of person and that their listeners could benefit from my group as well!
With the accumulation of hashtags, third-party social media communities, and influencers, you can grow your audience. Through these three tactics, my group has increased its following by 82%!
